The people of Tugijany village speak the Polnovat sub-dialect of the Kazym dialect of the Khanty language.
Tugijany lies on the left lower bank of the Gornaja Ob’, which flows into the Bol’šaja Ob’. The song language name of the village is ʌapət tǫrəm ↄrtəm mŭw, χǫt tǫrəm ↄrtəm mŭw ’land divided by seven gods, land divided by six gods’. According to the tradition of the local residents, when the Earth was created, χareŋ ĭki ’forest elder (?)’, the oldest son of nŭwi-tǫrəm divided the land among seven, six gods; ’he divided it, but he himself did not appear, so we do not know what kind of shape he takes’ [from T.
